Statement:
"This multiple has its starting point in the small comic
booklets 'Commando War Stories in Pictures' that have been printed
in Scotland since the 1960's and are still published today;
though in 1993 the name was changed to 'Commando for Action
and Adventure'. The source material dates from the 60's, 70's
and 80's.
The abstract shapes
are drawings of smashed up fighter planes.
I see my work as
translations of time, culture, habits or knowledge. There is
always a positive for my work, an entity that goes through a
process of extraction in an attempt to clarify and distinguish
that which at first was disregarded.
How we perceive,
how a culture evaluates, prioritises and the process of learning
are all reoccuring subject matters for my practice and the work
itself is frequently repetitive and time consuming.
As translated positives
my work has a strong foundation in elements that are easily
available and absolute, but in searching for the overlooked
I strive to bare the unfamiliar and choice of physical involvement
by the viewer as a way of instigating contemplation."
